Fladbury Church - lovely Wedding venue

St John the Baptist Church

God is love

and those who live in love live in God and God lives in them

I John ch.4 v.16

We hope this information is useful.

Everyone at Fladbury Church wants you to enjoy your very special day

The Church Building

  • This is an historically important working Church, with regular weekday and Sunday services, together with Church and community activities.
  • The church is open every day and all day to allow visitors to come and go freely and there are always many people who visit both the church and the churchyard.
  • Fladbury Church is a Grade 1 listed building and costs a huge amount of money every year in order to be kept open. The bulk of the costs are born by the regular worshippers in the parish.
  • There is a sound system, including a loop for the hard-of-hearing. There is kitchenette and a toilet in the back of the church with a baby-changing unit.
  • Although it is in an attractive setting and therefore a good choice for weddings, it cannot be assumed that alterations to decor and ornamentation in the church are permissible, though every effort will be made by the wardens to be as accommodating as possible to wedding parties.
  • Children are welcome. There is an area and equipment for children’s activities at the back of the church and bags of books etc for children to use in the pews.
  • Confetti may be thrown but we request bio-degradable materials.

There is normally a large pedestal arrangement in the Church for the Sunday Service.  This is produced by a parishioner normally at his/her own expense. The expectation is that one pedestal arrangement is left after the wedding, whilst the rest of the flowers may be removed if they are needed elsewhere. If there are any queries about flowers, please contact the Church flower organiser.

There are eight bells in the Tower.  A team of enthusiastic bellringers may be booked and paid for in advance.  They are all volunteers from Fladbury and neighbouring villages. Part of

the fee is paid to the ringers and part is set aside for maintenance of the bells.

  • The choir and organist at Fladbury Church are extremely enthusiastic and very much enjoy singing and playing at weddings.  Although we rate the standard quite high for a village church, you should remember that it is a village church and not a cathedral and there are limitations as to what can both be sung and also played on the organ! There is a very useful CD player within the sound system in the church which you are welcome to use if you supply the relevant CD.
  • You may wish to bring a musical friend to play/sing at your wedding. This is quite in order as there is an electric keyboard in the church, in addition to the organ.
  • It is a good plan to think hard about suitable hymns you may wish to have and discuss them with the priest who will be officiating and with the organist/choirmaster.
  • If you would like to book the services of the parish choir (for a fee) please do so and then contact the choirmaster. The choir is a group of volunteers who sing regularly at parish services and practise every week. They enjoy singing at weddings. They can lead the congregational singing and, if requested, will also sing during the signing of the register. It is a good idea if you get in touch with the choirmaster to discuss the music.

The Fladbury Church community are all volunteers. It is helpful if you discuss arrangements with us so that your wedding results in a happy day for everyone – this includes starting the service on time!

The whole service needs to be discussed in detail

with the officiating priest, who will point you in

various directions for expert advice

should it be needed.
