Parish Choir Meeting

Sunday 26th September ["Back to Church Sunday"]

Across the country, members of church congregations are being encouraged to invite friends and acquaintances in their communities who may not have attended church for some time to come to local church services on 26th September.

Whether or not you receive a personal invitation, please know that you will be very welcome at a church near you. Local church notice-boards and church bulletins will confirm the type of worship being offered on that day.

Please "come as you are" as the national slogan says and pray about those who you wish to be remembered before God in our services. Be sure that you will not feel out of place!

HOME GROUPS FOR AUTUMN

To follow on from the Summer holidays, we are again arranging some Home Groups across the Parish on a variety of topics, and are hoping to appeal to as broad a cross-section of our community as possible. Plans are still being finalised, but the provisional programme is:-

"Christian Basics - for seekers or revision" - at Robin & Velia Flack's, "Steyning",
Main Street, Cropthorne. Six weeks - weekday evenings - perhaps Mondays - 7.30 pm. Starting early October. Tel: 860911

"Christian Community" - at Michael & Janet Jefferies', "Old Timbers",
Bridge Street, Lower Moor. Eight weeks - weekdays, perhaps afternoons. Starting October. Tel: 860928

"Prayer, Contemplation & Meditation" with Mona Tyler at venue to be arranged. Four sessions of One hour, Monday mornings at 10.00 am. Starting October. Tel: 861990

"Why are we waiting? - looking afresh at the busy approach of Christmas" - at Graham & Barbara Pharo's, 3 Cherry Orchard, Charlton. Four weeks - weekday mornings/afternoons. Starting around Advent Sunday (28th November) Tel: 860445

"Who is Jesus, and what does it mean to be a Disciple?" Looking at two important questions: Is Jesus the human face of God? and What are the implications of this for Christian discipleship? - at Gerald & Jane Hughes', "Loafers Cottage", Lazy Lane, Fladbury. Six weeks between 15th September & 3rd November on Wednesday evenings on dates to be agreed within the group. Tel: 860650

Further details will appear, probably in next month's "Five Alive", and in church Weekly Bulletins, but in the meantime it would be good to hear from people interested, particularly as to preferred days and times where there can be some flexibility, so that we can cater for as many of you as possible. Contact us on any of the above numbers.

And if you haven't been to a Home Group before, and think it might be a bit threatening or intellectual - we're sure you'll find it isn't!

Concert in aid of Chernobyl Children’s Project

CUSHION CHURCH @ WYRE .COMe

Cushion church is an informal but focused time of worship for any who like to worship simply, and in the company of children. We bring cushions to sit on to remind us we’re in God’s house and as we carry our cushions back and forth we remember that Church isn’t really a building but a way of living our lives in the presence of a God who loves us deeply. As such, all our cushions are blessed during the service, so bring yours along for a blessing !

Here are the next few dates:

September 19th – Village Hall October 17th – St Anne’s

November 21st – Village Hall

December 19th – St Anne’s Christmas special !

We look forward to welcoming you to the only “Cushion Church” service in the world………!

Don’t forget your cushion !

MISSION SUNDAY

The first Sunday in October, 3rd October, has become well established as Mission Sunday. Since the parish is not in a financial position to make charitable donations, this was considered to be the best way that we could give people the opportunity of specifically giving money to Christian missionary work.

This year the money will go to the Christian Mission Society. This supports Christian missionaries around the world, including South America.

On the 3rd we will welcome the Rt. Reverend Bishop Henry Scriven to the 10 a.m. United Parish Communion at Charlton. He is a director for CMS in South America. Bishop Scriven was brought up in Surrey and has worked in Argentina, USA and Spain.

Envelopes will be available at the back of each church for the two Sundays prior to Oct 3rd . Cheques should be made payable to the Parish of FMWCC and if you are already registered for Gift Aid, your reference number should be put on the back of the cheque or envelope,. CMS will benefit from the Gift Aid.. If you wish to contribute, please use an envelope for your donation, and bring it to the service on 3rd October where it will be offered up with the collection for Blessing.

The Bowland Benefice The Five-Alive Parish
The Flyfords Family

... exploring working together across Parish Boundaries

Following the departure of the Revd Stuart East from the Bowland group of Churches (Upton Snodsbury, White Ladies Aston, Broughton Hackett and Peopleton) churchwardens, lay leaders and retired clergy in the group have been doing a superb job in ensuring continuity in services, pastoral care and small group learning.

Additional clergy support from our own Vicar Lynn and the Revd Clive Fairclough (Rector of The Flyfords Family of churches – Bishampton, Throckmorton, Flyford Flavell, Grafton Flyford, Abberton, North Piddle & Naunton Beauchamp ) is also being provided as we informally explore working together across parish boundaries. This means that Lynn and Clive will be supporting the mission and ministry in each others benefices as well as in the Bowland group.

We have already run a joint confirmation group across two of the groups and in September we are starting up a group for people from any of our sixteen villages to informally explore the Christian Faith.

What’s the group going to be called?
The ‘Just Looking’ Group

Who’s it for? Anyone who has had brief contact with the church maybe through a wedding or a baptism and would like to find out more about Christianity and explore ‘what gives meaning to life’ type questions

When & where will the group meet?
For five consecutive Thursday evenings in Throckmorton Village Hall, starting on Thursday 23rd September at 7.30pm (and continuing at the same time in the same place on 30th Sept, 7th, 14th and 21st October)

Where can I get further details /how do I register an interest?

Revd Clive Fairclough 01386-462648
